Welcome to the West Bridgford U3A web site.
The University of the Third Age has
844
U3A's and 275048 members. We in West
Bridgford have 537 members and 46 interest groups
Everybody who is retired or semi-retired is very welcome to
come along and see what WB U3A has of interest to them. WB U3A
is part of a big international group of U3A’s. We are
independent, run by our members, we organise activities to
suit our members however we are also part of a whole movement
aimed at engaging people with time available.
Do you need a certain level of education? – absolutely not.
Is the programme of activities primarily educational? –
absolutely not.
Is it all handicrafts and games? – absolutely not
Is it expensive? – absolutely not, annual membership is
currently £18 and individual interest groups only cover
expenses, an average of £2 per meeting. We do organise
social events and trips which have to be self financing but
these are all optional.
So what is it?
It’s an enjoyable way of taking part in continuous learning in
a relaxed and easy way with like minded people. Learning a new
skill or pastime, nothing too academic, or intellectual, at
your pace in a friendly atmosphere.
I joined WB U3A when I moved to Nottingham from Norwich, 3
years ago, and it has been a delight from the beginning.
I’ve met many people and tried a variety of interest groups,
some I continue to go to regularly, others I go to
occasionally, I’m a fair weather walker so although I always
intend to go on the longer walks I don’t always actually make
it. I was disappointed to realise that I have little musical
talent and couldn’t master the ukulele, however, I thoroughly
enjoyed going with the ukulele group to the concert hall in
Nottingham to see the Ukulele orchestra of Great Britain.
All the groups have been welcoming, interesting, at times
challenging but always enjoyable.
I am extremely pleased to be even more actively involved and
as the chairperson will ensure the friendly ethos of WB U3A
continues.
Come along – we look forward to meeting you and you know -
you’re worth it.
