West Bridgford U3A run two different types of eight week courses at different times of the year. These are advertised in the Newsletter about six weeks and sign up forms are available at the open meetings before they are due to commence.

The courses are designed for 12 members using the U3A’s laptops on a sharing basis of one between two members.  Members may use their own laptops as long as the appropriate software is available on them.

The Beginners course covers:

Word Processing; this starts by using WordPad and progresses to basic facilities of Microsoft Word.

The Internet; internet security with anti-virus programs is covered. The use of search engines to locate web-sites in order to obtain information will be investigated. This will lead to how to shop on-line and an introduction on how to download programs.

E-mails; this section covers how to send and receive e-mails, including attachments.

The Improvers course:

This expands on the beginners  course and investigates other MS Word facilities such as mail merge to produce labels and designing posters using WordArt. It will look at storing photographs on the computer using Picasa3.

The course will investigate free audio and visual communications using Skype. There will be sufficient time to examine other topics initiated by members of the group, all the ideas do not come from the group leader.

"THE COMPUTER SWALLOWED GRANDMA"
Yes honestly it's true
                             She pressed control and enter
                       And disappeared from view

             It devoured her completely
The thought just makes me squirm
She must have caught a virus
Or been eaten by a worm

I've searched through the recycle bin
               And files of every kind
                       I've even used the Internet
            But nothing did I find

                        In desperation I asked Jeeves
                My searches to refine
The reply from him was negative
Not a thing was found on-line

          So if inside your inbox
                             My Grandma should you see
Please copy, scan and paste her
And send her back to me
